HDP politician Ömer Kulpu was followed in his car in Batman by a vehicle with stolen license plates and deliberately hit.
In the Kurdish province of Batman, the former co-chairman of the HDP provincial association, Ömer Kulpu, was targeted by an attack on Thursday. The unknown perpetrators tried to run Kulpu over with a vehicle.
Kulpu reported that he noticed his pursuit by a vehicle while he was walking in the Petrol neighborhood of the city. When he got out of his car to confront the pursuers, the attack occurred. Kulpu described the attack by saying, "When I approached the car to ask why they were chasing me, the driver tried to run me over with the vehicle. In the process, the perpetrators' vehicle collided with my car. Then they fled. Half an hour later, the police arrived. The police said that the license plate of the vehicle that hit my car belonged to a tractor. Later, the police said it had been stolen. The police officers wrote down a report and left."
Kulpu recalled the kidnappings and murders of the 1990s, from which Batman remains severely scarred to this day: "Such attacks are part of the policy of intimidation against our struggle. We will not give in to these attacks at any price." In the 1990s, Turkish Hezbollah, which is controlled by the state, was particularly active as a death squad in Batman and was responsible for countless murdered and "disappeared" people.
