HDP urges Constitutional Court to condemn the crimes committed in Cizre

Nearly 300 people lost their lives and many were injured during the curfew and military onslaught in Cizre district of Şırnak in 2015.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Cizre District Organization co-chair Güler Tunç made a statement before the hearing at the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding the massacres committed by the Turkish state in the “death basements” of Cizre, Şırnak.

The Turkish government brutally murdered dozens of people in two separate basements during the 79-day curfew and military onslaught in Cizre district of Şırnak on December 14, 2015.

Before the statement, the HDP party building was blockaded by the police with armored vehicles. The statement was made in the yard of the building when the police intervened, citing the epidemic.

HDP district branch co-chair Güler Tunç reminded that nearly 300 people lost their lives and many were injured during the curfew.

"Those people were massacred despite the rulings of the ECtHR and the attempts of non-governmental organizations," she noted.

Tunç urged the Constitutional Court not to remain under the influence of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Tunç said that; "The Constitutional Court must condemn those responsible for the violations of rights in Cizre based on the international laws. In the contrary case, it will be confirmed that the judiciary is under the control of the AKP.”

HDP Şırnak Deputy Nuran İmir recalled that many families had appealed to the Constitutional Court but 180 of them ended up rejected. "The Constitutional Court is facing a historic decision today. We will follow this case until justice is served," she said.
