Etimesgut district Governor in Turkish capital Ankara, Cumali Atilla, has been appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality to replace Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı who have been jailed two days ago.

Speaking to ANF about the appointment of a trustee to Amed Municipality, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson and Kars MP Ayhan Bilgen stated the following: "Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan has repeatedly voiced his desire to take control over Amed. They couldn't do this through elections and now they suppose they have been able to take control of Amed by appointing a trustee to the municipality. Replacing the elected representatives with trustees reveals the point they have reached. AKP's current practices go beyond the practices of coup periods even. What needs to be done at this point is to ignore those who ignore the will of the people. Nobody will accept the appointment of trustees which clearly manifests the collapse of this regime."

BALUKEN: GOVERNMENT PURSUES A COUP POLICY

HDP Group Deputy Chair and Amed MP İdris Baluken also criticised the appointment of a trustee to Amed Municipality in a speech at Turkish Parliament.

Baluken stated that: "They are possessed by a madness. The government does not know what Amed means to the Kurdish people and the democratic forces in Turkey. I hope they take into account what consequences this will have. If those who defend that Aleppo and Mosul must be governed by their own people attempt to govern Diyarbakır with officers of the Palace, this means a madness with regard to their own political aftermath. Those who engage in such a dictatorship and madness in the Middle East had possessed greater palaces! The government is implementing a policy of coup and enmity."
