At least 24 Turkish soldiers were killed in the clashes that took place in Binbir area of Yüksekova district of Hakkari, where the Turkish army attempts to extend its operations launched at 02:00 on October 12, according to HPG statement.
People’s Defense Forces (HPG) Press Office has reported in a written statement that the Turkish army continues military activities and operations uninterruptedly in the same intensity against the guerrilla forces despite the KCK's declaration of inaction on October 10.
Reporting that operations of the Turkish army in Binbir area of Hakkari's Yüksekova district continues expanding, HPG said clashes have intensified in the area as a result of these operations. “Turkish army has caused heavy clashes by escalating the war despite our decision of inaction”, said the HPG.
“The Turkish army has entered into an intense war in Binbir area both before and after the decision of inaction taken by our forces on October 10 and ceaselessly continued its bombardments both from surrounding military posts with mortar fires and aerially by war planes”, said HPG, and provided the details below regarding the ongoing clashes and the war in the area.
The Turkish army attempted at advancing towards Hill Martyr Fikret in Binbir area through an infiltration at 02:00 on October 12. A total of 11 Turkish soldiers had previously been killed as a result of the clashes that broke out due to aerial and ground attacks against the main guerrilla emplacements here. The fighting intensified as a result of the fighting that continued until morning hours of October 13, leaving 13 more soldiers dead.
The Turkish army launched bombardments from ground and air on the entire area by using all its technical means since October 12. The bombardments carried out by jets, howitzers, mortars and tanks continued intensely and ceaselessly, while the Turkish army removed its casualties from the area by Sikorsky type helicopters.
CLASHES IN HILL MARTYR EZİZ
Clashes took place between guerrilla forces and the Turkish troops engaged in activity around Hill Martyr Eziz in Binbir area at 02:00 on October 13, while the number of the casualties suffered the Turkish army could not be verified. Turkish forces intensely shelled the area by jets and Cobra type helicopters as well as with mortars, howitzers and tanks.
HPG went on reporting that a counter-guerrilla group has been engaged in activities in Şorık and surrounding villages in Adaklı district of Bingöl for a while, and called on the people of the area to be attentive against the group.
HPG further reported that the Turkish army had closed the road between Van and Şax (Çatak) between October 8 and 12 where it also deployed troops in large numbers in addition to 50 armoured vehicles, 8 tanks, howitzers and mortars in a preparation of an extensive operation to be launched in the area.
