Heavy rains in Kurdistan 

Heavy rains have taken over several regions in Kurdistan. Bridges and houses have collapsed in Qandil’s villages and one person lost their life in Amed. Two villages in Yuksekova have been evacuated. 

Heavy rains on Thursday night have affected villages on the skirts of the Qandil mountain. 

DOZENS OF VILLAGES AFFECTED

The rain has affected dozens of villages in Sulaimaniyah’s Rania and Hewler’s Soran districts, while floods have taken down the bridge in Bireê that connects the Suredê, Ashqulkê, Sergenel, Sinemokê and Qirneqe villages to the main road. Dozens of families are trapped in the villages. 

The rain has also taken down power lines, and all the villages are left without power. 

HOUSES COLLAPSED, FIELDS FLOODED

Local sources say 6 houses in Qirneqe, 3 houses in Biredê and 1 house in Sinemokê have collapsed. There is no information from the other villages yet. 

Fields, orchards and groves have also been flooded in these villages while there are no reported casualties.

TWO VILLAGES IN YUKSEKOVA EVACUATED

Heavy rain for the last 3 days has caused 2 villages to flood in Hakkari’s Yuksekova district. The rain has affected the Adakli (Alekenan) and Kadikoy (Kadyan) villages. 

The heavy rains has caused flooding and many houses and stables in Kadikoy are now under water. Villagers have been evacuated and moved to Yuksekova center.

The Cemine Stream that passes through the Adakli village has flooded and villagers by the riverbank have been evacuated. The floods have caused extensive damages. 

ONE PERSON DIED IN AMED

One person lost their life and 29 others were wounded when a passenger bus toppled over in the slippery road due to the rain in Amed. 

The passenger bus with the license plate 23 ES 260 on its route from Bingol to Amed lost control and toppled over on the slippery road due to the rain in the vicinity of the Mermer village Yazilipinar area. An investigation has been launched on the accident. 

HEAVY RAINS IN SIRNAK AND MARDIN

Several houses have flooded in the heavy rains that affect Sirnak and Mardin. Roofs have flown off of many buildings and falling rocks have caused blockages on several roads. 

The Sirnak road has been closed off. Several trees and power lines have fallen in the Beytussebap district center and villages. Roofs have flown off several houses.
