The residents of Şırnak had to leave their homes in the genocidal attacks during the “curfew” that was declared on March 14, 2016 and continued for 8 months. They resettled in the Bilmad village which was evacuated in 1993 and rebuilt some houses with their own means. The Special Provincial Administration sent units to seal off 12 newly built houses in the village.

Villagers spoke about the issue and said the houses were sealed “on a complaint”, but they did not receive any details. The Bilmad residents had stayed in tents and shacks for a long time to not leave their lands because of the curfew, and now they will appeal to the Governorate about the matter.

Houses damaged by 8 months of artillery fire had been torn down with excavators in Şırnak. 70% of the city was demolished in the attacks.
