HPG: 10 soldiers killed in guerrilla actions

Ten members of the Turkish occupation forces were killed and three others injured in actions by mobile guerrilla units in southern Kurdistan. Meanwhile, the Turkish army continues its air and artillery attacks on the region.

According to the press centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG), the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) were bombed from the air more than thirty times on Sunday. The HPG recorded nine airstrikes by fighter jets and 27 bombardments by attack helicopters, and dozens of artillery attacks against the guerrillas’ resistance areas, mainly targeting areas west of the Zap. In the resistance area around the Girê FM massif, Turkish forces used explosives and chemical agents several times.

Meanwhile, the mobile guerrilla units continue to resist the occupation of their areas. In Zap, guerrillas struck the Turkish forces trying to advance on Şikefta Birîndara accompanied by tanks on Sunday morning. Two soldiers were killed and another was wounded, while a military vehicle was severely damaged.

Late in the evening, the Turkish army tried to airdrop troops in Şikefta Birîndara. The Sikorsky transport plane came under "heavy fire" and had to turn back with the soldiers on board. Shortly before, fighters of the Free Women's Troops YJA Star carried out a coordinated two-front action against Turkish military forces in the vicinity of the Şehîd Arjîn defence tunnels, using light and heavy weapons. According to the HPG, six occupants were killed there.

In Metîna, the guerrillas carried out two sabotage actions against occupation troops moving towards Girê Amêdî. The death of one soldier was confirmed, while a second was wounded. Until Monday night, the Turkish army did not manage to evacuate the casualties from the fighting area. At Girê Cûdî, too, a planned advance by the occupying forces was prevented by a successful guerrilla intervention. Here, too, one soldier was killed, a second injured.
