HPG: 13 Turkish soldiers were killed in Southern Kurdistan

According to HPG information, 13 soldiers of the Turkish invading forces have been killed in guerrilla actions in Southern Kurdistan while the Turkish army continues to use prohibited means of combat.

According to the press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG), the guerrillas continue to resist the Turkish invasion. The HPG's daily statement about the war in Kurdistan said: "Since the first day of the occupation operation, our forces have turned every place the occupiers have entered into a resistance area. Our forces are dealing heavy blows to the occupiers with the tunnel warfare-based fighting method of mobile units and are continuing the resistance with increasing performance. The army of the Republic of Turkey is unable to achieve the desired result against the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla despite using all NATO-backed means and is committing war crimes with internationally outlawed bombs and chemical weapons. On 26 October, the Turkish occupation forces attacked our resistance areas four times with banned bombs and five times with chemical weapons. The chemical weapons used in the Girê Şehîd Pîrdoğan fighting positions resulted in a toxic black smoke. The smell of gunpowder spread first and then of chlorine. In addition, the resistance areas were bombed three times by fighter jets and six times by attack helicopters, and attacked dozens of times with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons."

Despite these massive attacks, the courageous resistance of the guerrillas continues, the HPG stated. According to the HPG, 13 members of the Turkish occupation forces were killed and five others were injured in the latest guerrilla actions. The guerrillas destroyed a position, two surveillance camera systems and an AT-4 weapon.

HPG GUERRILLA BAGER BAŞKALE MARTYRED IN METINA

The HPG statement announced the death of guerrilla fighter Bager Başkale in Metîna on 1 October. "Our companion Bager had been in Metîna for a long time and had taken command of the mobile guerrilla units in the resistance against the occupiers. He was one of the leading militants in the area and fought until his last breath," said the HPG and announced his ID information as follows:

Nom de Guerre: Bager Başkale
First-Last Name: Battal Ayhan
Birthplace: Van
Mother's-Father's Name: Zeycan – Nihat
Date and Place of Martyrdom: 1 October 2022 / Metîna

Bager Başkale was born in the Başkale district of Van province and grew up with the resistance of the Kurdish people. As many people from his family and close environment joined the liberation struggle, he built a close connection to the movement at an early age. Like most young people in Kurdistan who want to live a dignified life, he experienced the oppression by the Turkish state firsthand. Even as a teenager, he wanted to become a guerrilla fighter, but he had to wait until he was old enough. In 2015, he finally went to the mountains in his home region and stayed with the guerrillas in Van for three years. He quickly developed into a competent fighter who took part in many successful actions against the Turkish army. He then underwent further ideological and military training and went to Metina as a unit commander, where he continued his struggle and took a leading role in implementing modern guerrilla tactics. He was loved and respected by his fellow fighters for his comradery approach, dedication and humble personality. The HPG paid tribute to Bager Başkale as a successful commander of mobile combat tactics and extended their condolences to his family and the Kurdish people.
