The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) published a statement providing information about the latest guerrilla actions against the Turkish occupation forces in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the statement, 36 Turkish soldiers were killed in the Xakurke and Metîna regions on 22 December.

The HPG statement on Saturday said: "The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla, which fights with the Apoist sacrificial spirit in every season, under all conditions and everywhere, carried out the Martyr Ahmed Rûbar Revolutionary Operation in Xakurkê and the coordinated guerrilla action in Metîna and dealt a heavy and crushing blow to the invaders. With the high creativity of democratic modernity guerrilla, the ability to use rich guerrilla tactics and the unshakable will to overcome all kinds of difficulties, it put forth an effective performance even in harsh winter conditions. In the revolutionary operation carried out in Xakurkê in the name of Comrade Martyr Ahmed Rûbar, one of the pioneer commanders of our guerrilla army; our operation force, which advance upon the invaders with a high spirit of conquest, liquidated all the invaders on this hill, took control of the hill, killed 27 invaders, confiscated many weapons and military equipment and destroyed most of them. In Metîna, 9 invaders who were struck in a coordinated guerrilla action were killed."

The HPG Press Center provided the following details regarding the revolutionary operation against the invaders in Xakurkê in memory of Martyr Ahmed Rubar, the actions in other areas and the details of the attacks by the invading Turkish army:

Xakurke region

During the operation carried out in Xakurke at 15:05 on 22 December, which was dedicated to the memory of guerrilla commander Ahmed Rûbar, who had fallen in 2022, the guerrillas captured a previously occupied hill. 27 occupiers were killed at Girê Şehîd Kamuran and the bodies of 17 soldiers were searched by the guerrillas. The guerrillas seized weapons and military equipment, much of which was destroyed.

According to the HPG, the operation was launched by the targeted shelling of Turkish army units with heavy weapons in the areas of Girê Şehîd Kamuran and Girê Şehîd Heqî. One position was destroyed. A good hour later, guerrillas infiltrated the positions occupied by soldiers at Girê Şehîd Kamuran from three flanks. Five positions and two tents were captured by the guerrillas. The guerrillas confiscated weapons and used them against the occupying forces. The Turkish unit on the Girê Şehîd Kamuran hill was completely eliminated. The area remained under guerrilla control for half an hour. HPG guerrilla Memyan, who led the action with great courage, was martyred during the operation.

The occupying Turkish army, which was dealt a crushing blow, again concealed most of its casualties from the public, revealing only the names of the ranking lieutenant Ramazan Günay, specialist sergeant Mehmet Serinkan, specialist corporal İsmail Yazıcı and military contractors Emre Taşkın, Yasin Karaca and Çağatay Erenoğlu. However, it has been clarified that at least 27 invaders were punished in the Şehîd Ahmed Rûbar Revolutionary Operation. It was also learned that infantry major Yavuz Tunç, non-commissioned officer Samet Emir Sapan, specialist sergeant İbrahim Parıldar, specialist sergeant Emrullah Yıldırım, specialist sergeant Mehmet Ali Bozkurt and military contractor Hasan Hüseyin Keskin were seriously wounded.

In the Şehîd Ahmed Rûbar Revolutionary Operation, 2 MPT-55 weapons, 2 weapon scopes, 1 BKC weapon, its chain and 150 BKC bullets were confiscated from the invaders. In addition, 3 surveillance cameras, 1 thermal binoculars, 1 large camera, 1 communication system and network, 1 communication center, 1 radar, 1 A4 weapon, 2 BKC weapons and 1 large grenade launcher weapon were destroyed.

Metîna region

At 10:00 on 22 December, a coordinated guerrilla action was carried out with infiltration tactics against the invaders in Girê Ortê Resistance Area. 9 invaders who were effectively hit with grenades and individual weapons at close range were killed. In addition, 4 tents, 2 positions and 1 surveillance camera were destroyed.

Western Zap region

Two surveillance cameras installed by the Turkish army were destroyed by snipers in the resistance areas of Girê Amêdîyê and Girê FM in the western Zap region on 20 December.

Attacks by the Turkish army

Regarding the Turkish army's attacks on the Medya Defense Zones in the past three days, HPG reported that unconventional explosives and three drones loaded with explosives were used against guerrilla positions in the areas of Şehîd Diyar and Sîda in Zap. On the other hand, Turkish fighter jets bombed the guerrilla areas twenty times during this period, targeting the areas of Gundê Çemrobotkî, Gundê Yekmalê and Deşta Kafya in Gare; the areas of Lolan, Girê Rostê and Goşînê in Xakurke; the areas of Gundê Bêşîlî and Gundê Şêlazê in Metîna as well as Girê Hîwa and Girê Şehîd Egîd in Qendîl. Artillery attacks by the Turkish army targeted the regions of Zap, Şehîd Delîl Western Zap, Metîna and Xakurke.
