HPG announces the martyrdom of a guerrilla in Şırnak

Guerrilla fighter Reşo Xerzan died in May during a military operation of the Turkish army in the province Şırnak.

The Press Centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) has announced the death of guerrilla fighter Reşo Xerzan. In a statement published on 31 May, the HPG had announced that a guerrilla fighter had died during a military operation of the Turkish army on Mount Gabar in Şırnak region. The name of the fallen guerrilla has been published today.

The statement said that Reşo Xerzan was born in 1992 in a patriotic family in Siirt. He witnessed from an early age the village burnings and expulsions and developed sympathy for the PKK. During his time as a student he felt the discrimination by the Turkish state even more clearly. It became clear to him that the only way to freedom was through guerrilla struggle. In 2013 he took to the mountains and joined the struggle.

The HPG described Reşo Xerzan as a sacrificial and hard-working person who showed an unbending will in the struggle and developed tactically and ideologically quickly. As a responsible guerrilla fighter he passed on his knowledge of the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan to others and took a leading role.

The HPG expressed their condolences to the relatives and patriotic people of Kurdistan and added: "We give our word that we will carry the struggle of our martyrs to victory."
