HPG: Eight Turkish soldiers killed in Ağrı countryside

In Doğubayazıt in Northern Kurdistan, eight soldiers of a Turkish military unit died in a guerrilla action. Guerrillas also targeted the Turkish army in Çukurca.

The Press Office of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement on the latest guerrilla actions and Turkish military attacks in Kurdistan territory.

According to the statement, guerrillas struck a Turkish military unit in the countryside of Doğubayazıt district in Ağrı province on August 28 night.  The action was carried out as part of the "revolutionary victory offensive" that is ongoing in the Serhad region of Northern Kurdistan.

Around midnight, the military unit in question was sighted laying ambushes in the area between the Serêkaniyê and Girberana outposts. After an observation of their movements, the unit was hit by guerrillas at 5 a.m. in the morning when they went into action under the protection of reconnaissance aircraft. Effective strikes at a 5-meter range inflicted a heavy blow and caused panic on the Turkish soldiers who then fled the scene. HPG said they were able to determine the death of eight soldiers, including a high-ranking.

Following the action, the region was attacked by the Turkish army with heavy weapons, which resulted in a wildfire that continues to rage.

HPG pointed out that the Turkish army is hiding the actual number of its losses from the public, saying: "In the special war media there is only talk of two dead soldiers. These reports do not correspond in the least to reality.”

Two positions destroyed in Çukurca

In the Çukurca district in the province of Hakkari, two Turkish military positions on Hill Girê were destroyed by the guerrillas. However, it is unclear how many soldiers were killed and injured in the action which was carried out two days ago.

Wildfire in Avashin

According to HPG statement, another wildfire broke out in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan as a result of Turkish artillery attacks. The targets of the bombardments in the Avashin region were the villages of Mawata, Dirê and Geliyê Basya. The fire could not be extinguished yet.
