The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reported that the guerrilla Bijî Amed died in April 2020 in clashes with the Turkish army in Lice, in the province of Amed. The HPG has released information about his identity and extended its condolences to his family, the people of Amed and the Kurdish people.

Bijî Amed came from a patriotic family that was well-known and respected in their community. His family instilled in him social ethics, an awareness of his own identity and a profound love for his own country.

Bijî knew about the Kurdish freedom movement as a child. He grew up in a revolutionary atmosphere on the streets of Amed and became active in the youth movement as an adolescent. In doing so, he represented the radical attitude of the Kurdish youth and worked against the Turkish state's various methods that were intended to alienate young people from their identity and distract them from the liberation struggle.

He realized early on that his people must have self-defense mechanisms in order to defend themselves against the state's campaign of extermination. In 2015, he joined the guerrillas at Newroz in the mountains of Amed.

He received his first training with the guerrillas from commanders Azad Sîser, Eylül Amed and Evîn Amed, who later died. They passed on to him their decades of experience in combat and life, helping him quickly develop into a competent fighter.

Since the Turkish state was preparing for a massive attack during this time, Bijî focused on military capabilities. At the same time, he dealt with the ideology of Abdullah Öcalan and the values that make up an apoist personality.

When the Turkish state began destroying Kurdish cities and neighbourhoods in July 2015, Bijî was constantly looking for opportunities to take action. Although he was still new to the guerrillas, he took part in numerous actions in Amed with great courage and willingness to sacrifice. It was an advantage for him that he came from the region and knew the conditions well.

During clashes on 14 April 2020 in Lice, he used his hand grenade against himself as a last resort to avoid falling into enemy captivity.

"Heval Bijî did not compromise on his apoist militancy throughout his revolutionary life and maintained this attitude even in his last stand. “In doing so, he has taken an honorable place in the history of freedom of our people," said the HPG.
