The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that guerrilla Brûsk Timoqî died in an enemy attack in the Besta region in North Kurdistan six years ago. At the time of his death, his unit was in the Deriyê Qaçê area. The HPG paid tribute to guerrilla Brûsk Timoqî, saying he was a courageous and determined militant who unreservedly dedicated his life to his people's struggle for freedom. The HPG expressed its condolences to his family, the people of Timoq and the Kurdish people. The HPG provided the following information regarding the identity of the martyr:
Codename: Brûsk Timoqî
First and last name: Hüseyin Değirmenci
Place of birth: Batman
Names of mother and father: Sacide – Ahmet
Date and place of death: 25 October 2017 / Botan
Brûsk Timoqî was born in the village of Timoq in Batman (Êlih). The population of the village was always close to the Kurdish liberation struggle. Brûsk experienced the brutal oppression of the Turkish state in the 1990s. After Abdullah Öcalan was kidnapped and brought to Turkey in 1999, he joined the PKK.
Brûsk went to the mountains of Kelareş and stayed in the area for two years. There he received his first training as a guerrilla and gained his first experiences. He then went to Qandîl, where he continued his ideological training for two years. For the guerrilla offensive on 1 June 2004, he went to Hakkari (Colemêrg) in North Kurdistan at his own suggestion.
In 2005, he returned to the Medya Defense Areas to pass on his experiences to his fellow fighters and to reflect on his previous practice. After a stay at the Haki Karer Academy, he went to the regions of Zap, Garê and Xakurke. In Xakurke, he took on great responsibility and was commander of a battalion for years. He took part in many actions, motivated his fellow fighters and was loved and respected for his modesty, his willingness to make sacrifices and his honest approach.
When the Turkish state began to implement its totalitarian concept of annihilation against the Kurdish movement in 2015, a new era also dawned for Brûsk. In order to be able to give an appropriate response to the attacks, he went to the party school named after Mazlum Doğan and focused on finding solutions to the existing organizational and tactical problems and on the gender and class struggle. He emerged stronger from his training.
In the winter of 2015/2016, Brûsk went to Botan and took responsibility in the headquarters of the Resistance for Self-Government in Siirt (Sêrt). It was a very difficult time and Brûsk barely knew the region. Nevertheless, he was able to adapt quickly and set up a self-defense system together with the local people. He then went to Besta and became commander of the Kêla Memê area. He died on 25 October 2017. The HPG say he left a great legacy and his memory lives on in their fight.
