The HPG Press Center issued a statement to pay tribute to guerrilla fighter Ismail Por Mahmut (Çiya Agirî), who fell as a martyr as the result of an attack by MIT and Parastin.

The statement reads as follows:

“In the statement we released on 19 August 2023, we announced that our comrade Çiya Agirî had been martyred as a result of a conspiracy in the Banikê area of Heftanîn.

The martyrdom of our comrade Çiya, who fought for the freedom of our people by joining the guerrilla ranks with a national spirit from Rojhilatê Kurdistan, by conspiratorial elements will cause great anger in us, his comrades, and it will also be a reason to increase the fight.

We express our condolences to all the people of Kurdistan, especially to the valuable family of our comrade Çiya Agirî.

Our comrade Çiya was born in the city of Maku in East Kurdistan, into a patriotic family that paid a price in our struggle for freedom. Comrade Çiya got to know our Party from an early age, as his family and close relatives have known and embraced our Party PKK and Rêber Apo since the early 1990s, and have given their most precious sons to the ranks of the resistance by showing an example of great patriotism. Comrade Çiya, who was impressed by the selfless resistance of his close relative Comrade Şirin Elemhûlî and all political prisoners from Rojhilat, thought that in order to be worthy of these self-sacrificing comrades, he had to join the ranks of the resistance.

Comrade Çiya, who had the opportunity to get to know the guerrillas from an early age, was impressed by the guerrilla's life stance, morals and comradely relations. Thus, he made the guerrilla the greatest target to reach for himself. As he grew older, his admiration for the guerrillas and his determination in his cause also grew. He decided to join the guerrilla ranks to take on the weapons of his brother Cemil, who fell as a martyr in the Serhed area in 2015.

Our comrade, who received his first training in the Garê area, successfully completed his training and quickly headed to the practical field.

Comrade Çiya, who moved to the Maxmur and Kirkuk areas after ISIS mercenaries attacked South Kurdistan, was one of the first comrades who came to the aid of our people here.

He returned to the Medya Defense Zones after successfully completing his duty in Maxmur-Kirkuk, and quickly took his place in the resistance positions with the war experience he gained.

Our comrade Çiya, who has been working in the field of Heftanîn since 2018, took part in many actions against the enemy and had a share in the transformation of every inch of Heftanîn's land into an area of resistance.

Comrade Çiya was in the Cenga Heftanîn Campaign where he took place as the team commander, and who also guided his comrades, managed to adequately represent the new era's command line.

Afterwards, our comrade Çiya, who was involved in different activities for a while, returned to Heftanîn at his own insistence.

Our comrade Çiya fell as a martyr as a result of the conspiracy by the genocidal Turkish state and its collaborators. He succeeded in becoming one of the most distinguished representatives of the national unity spirit of our people as a revolutionary from Rojhilat against all this collaborative and treacherous line.”
