HPG pays tribute to guerrilla Kerim Amed

Guerrilla Kerim Amed died in August while resisting the Turkish occupation of the Metina region in Southern Kurdistan.

Guerrilla Kerim Amed fell as a martyr in an attack by the Turkish army in the region of Metina, in South Kurdistan, last August.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement: “Our comrade Kerim Amed, who dealt heavy blows to the Turkish army in Metina, led effective actions and was known for his courage and bravery, fell as a martyr during an enemy attack on 11 August 2023."

The statement added: "Hevalê Kerim was one of the exemplary modern guerrillas who masterfully used and led the fighting style of mobile guerrilla units. We express our condolences to the precious family of our comrade Kerim, a brave son of the people of Amed and leading apoist militants, as well as the patriotic people of Kurdistan, and give our word to make Hevalê Kerim's dream of 'Free Leadership, Free Kurdistan' come true."

The HPG provided the following information about Kerim Amed:

 Code name: Kerim Amed
First and last name: Hacı Kaskat
 Place of birth: Amed
Names of mother and father: Havva – Abdullah
Date and place of death: August 11, 2023 / Metina

Kerim Amed was born in Amed and grew up with the resistance culture typical of the region. Impressed by the fight for Kobanê and the fallen soldiers of the liberation movement, he joined the guerrillas in 2014.

He spent the first four years of his guerrilla life in Heftanin. In 2017, he was injured in an attack by the Turkish army, but continued his fight undeterred.

The HPG described Kerim Amed as "a humble and cheerful person who showed great commitment and was loved by those around him. For him, the cooperative life in the PKK was the most beautiful and possible way of life in this world."

When the Turkish state intensified attacks on the Medya defense areas, he went to Heftanin in 2021 and fought in a mobile unit. Due to his previous stay in the region, he knew the ground well and was able to use his knowledge in many actions against the Turkish occupiers.

He then went to Metîna, where he brought his military experience into the fight and passed it on to his fellow fighters. He fought in Girê Ortê and made a significant contribution to the resistance against the occupation of the area.
