Firat Dilopa Baranê
Firat Dilopa Baranê was born in the Kurdish resistance stronghold of Yüksekova (Gever) in the province of Hakkari (Colemêrg), and was affected by the repression carried out by the Turkish state, but above all, by the PKK's freedom struggle. He took part in popular uprisings from a young age and dropped out of school before graduating from high school. After being active in the revolutionary youth movement for a while, he decided to take up armed struggle and went to the mountains. He received basic training in the Medya Defense Areas. The more he learned about it, the more he loved guerrilla life in the mountains.
He paid attention to detail and spread positive energy with his enthusiasm. In the following period, he took on various tasks and worked on the construction of several tunnel systems. When he was transferred to the war zone at his own suggestion, he was assigned to a semi-mobile unit and bravely and successfully took part in resistance actions against the Turkish army.
Dîrok Cûdî
Guerrilla Dîrok Cûdî was born in Til Hemis in northern Syria and lived most of her time in Qamişlo. She knew about the PKK before the revolution in Rojava, but only got to know the movement better after it. She was particularly impressed by the resistance to attacks by Islamist groups, which was supported by women and men from all population groups.
Another factor was the women's revolution. She observed the social changes and experienced how women resisted oppression and fought in all areas of life. After an intensive examination of the solution models presented by Abdullah Öcalan for women's freedom and a democratic society, she made the decision to join the guerrillas.
In 2017, she went to the mountains and quickly settled in. Life in nature had a liberating effect and Dîrok concentrated on her ideological and military training. This helped her to get to know herself better day by day and to become aware of her own strength. As a YJA Star militant, she went into practice and fought alongside women who had joined the guerrillas from different places. She felt responsible for every detail of life.
She stayed in many areas within the Medya Defense Areas and took part in specialized military training so that she could defend herself as a professional YJA fighter. For her, the mountains were the place where women could be free and where she found herself. She lived and fought with this attitude until the end, said the HPG.
