HPG pays tribute to martyr guerrilla commander Hewrê Çiya

Hewrê Çiya was born in Eastern Kurdistan and spent his youth in Germany. As a guerrilla commander, he played a decisive role in defending the resistance stronghold of Zap against the Turkish occupiers.

The guerrilla commander Hewrê Çiya was killed in March in an attack by the Turkish army in the Zap region. The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said that the guerrilla was born in Ciwanro (Javanrud) in Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan), and was a courageous revolutionary who "turned his back on the system of capitalist modernity and rejected the prescribed life in Europe in order to make his way to the mountains of Kurdistan."

Hewrê Çiya quickly became a master of guerrilla warfare and contributed to great successes with his courage, his understanding and his persistent efforts. "He was an exemplary guerrilla commander of democratic modernity who gave great confidence to his comrades and hope to his people, but put great fear in the heart of the enemy. In doing so, he set the standard at which level our people and our movement should participate in the struggle, especially in this time that determines the future."

The HPG expressed its condolences to the family, the people of Rojhilat and the Kurdish people and declared that self-sacrificing apoist people like Hewrê Çiya keep hope alive and his struggle continues. The HPG provided the following information about the identity and life story of the martyr guerrilla:

 Code name: Hewrê Çiya

First and last name: Mosleh Qazîzade

 Place of birth: Ciwanro

Names of mother and father: Ferîşte – Bûrhan

Date and place of death: March 2024 / Zap

Hewrê Çiya lived in Eastern Kurdistan until he was twelve years old and grew up with his Kurdish identity. He took on various jobs at an early age to help support his family. For economic and political reasons, his family moved to Germany. Here, too, he worked in various fields. He experienced the injustice of the capitalist system and followed developments in Kurdistan with great interest. He was particularly impressed by the fight led by the PKK against the occupying forces and Islamist groups. He became active in the Kurdish youth movement and studied the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. As a young Kurd, he felt responsible for freedom in his country, so he returned to Kurdistan and became a guerrilla.

In the Medya Defense Areas, guerrilla Hewrê Çiya took part in basic training for new fighters. With great enthusiasm, he participated in guerrilla life and thus attracted the attention of his companions from the very first moment. He dealt intensively with the PKK ideology and the requirements of a revolutionary life. This intellectual debate became a basic attitude for him. By combining education and practice, he gained competence in guerrilla warfare every day. He took on various tasks which he carried out in a goal-oriented and meticulous manner.

After a while, guerrilla Hewrê Çiya decided to join the Hêzên Taybet, a special unit that requires explicit sacrifice and ideological depth. He underwent training that took him to a new level of apoist ideology, the art of war, professional guerrilla warfare and sacrifice. Hewrê had exceptional courage and combined this natural gift with apoist militancy.

From 2021, guerrilla Hewrê Çiya took part in the defense of the Zap region and transformed his years of pent-up anger into successful actions against the enemy. He penetrated enemy positions, dealt massive blows to the occupying forces and confiscated their weapons. With his fight, he played a key role in making the Zap a stronghold of resistance. As attacks on the region increased in 2022, he demonstrated his tactical brilliance and deep connection with his fellow fighters as a commander. He made important developments in the construction of tunnel systems and the combination of mobile teams in the terrain. He played a crucial role in the preparation, planning and implementation of revolutionary guerrilla operations. His fearlessness, even in the fiercest moments of combat, also affected the fighters under his command. The HPG wrote that Hewrê Çiya played a major role in the failure of the Turkish army in 2022 and the large-scale guerrilla operations in Zap since the end of 2023.
