Tîjda Jiyan

Tîjda Jiyan was born and grew up in Urfa-Siverek (Riha-Sewerêg). As a teenager, she got to know the Kurdish freedom movement and took part in various activities. She admired the guerrillas for fighting in the mountains of Kurdistan and was enthusiastic about the revolution in Rojava. When ISIS attacked Kobanê in 2014, she crossed the border and took part in the defense of the city.

Tîjda was one of the heroes who opposed the Islamists and inflicted the first defeat on ISIS. After the liberation of Kobanê, she went to the mountains in 2015 and joined the guerrillas. She took part in ideological and military training in which she supplemented the combat experience she had acquired in Kobanê with knowledge of guerrilla tactics.

The collective life in the mountains had a great influence on her development. As a YJA Star fighter and advocate of the women's liberation ideology, she subsequently took on tasks in various places within the Medya Defense Areas. After further training, she worked in the health sector in Xakurkê for six years, caring for sick and injured fellow fighters.

Faraşîn Gabar

Faraşîn Gabar was born in Sirnak-Cizre (Şirnex-Cizîr) and belonged to the Bilika tribe. Her family was close to the Kurdish freedom movement. Her uncle Abdullah (Ismail Tanış) was killed in battle. Faraşîn took part in youth movement activities and joined the resistance for self-government in Cizre in 2015. She survived the massacres committed by the Turkish state against the population and went to the mountains.

In the Medya Defense Areas, she received basic training for new fighters and quickly got used to guerrilla life. She said that she joined the PKK to fight for a free life for all people in the world. For her, as a Kurd, this fight began with the defense of her people and women who were threatened with annihilation. In the resistance against the Turkish occupation attacks, she took part in actions against the enemy as a YJA Star fighter and improved her military skills. She has fought in Xakurke since 2020.
