HPG reports guerrilla action in Bitlis

One soldier died as a result of an action of HPG/YJA Star guerrillas against the Turkish army in Bitlis on May 8.

HPG Media Center issued a written statement on guerrilla actions and the attacks of the Turkish army. In their statement, HPG officials said that guerrillas carried out an action in the Sêgirkê village of Şırnak’s Uludere district on April 29 against a counter-guerrilla named Salih Babat, who had treacherously killed 2 guerrillas as they were passing by Doğan Hill in the Besta region of Şırnak on August 29, 2015. HPG reported that state forces declared a curfew after the action, but HPG guerrillas returned to their base safely.

HPG stated that its action was in retaliation of the treacherous murders of August 29, 2015, and did not constitute the targeting of Babat family or the village guards in Sêgirkê. HPG called upon civilians to be wary of the Turkish state’s provocations on this issue.
