HPG reports guerrilla actions in northern and southern Kurdistan

Nine Turkish soldiers were killed in guerrilla actions in the Botan region and in Avaşîn, Zap and Xakurke.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing information about the ongoing war of the Turkish state against guerrilla forces in Kurdistan territory.

Botan

In the Botan region in northern Kurdistan, at least three Turkish soldiers were killed and another injured in guerrilla actions in recent days. The Turkish army suffered six casualties during guerrilla countermeasures against the invasion of southern Kurdistan, according to the HPG statement released on Sunday.

On April 20, the Turkish military launched an operation in the Cûdî region in Şirnak, which later extended to Difindağ. On April 23, the operation units were targeted by guerrillas from the Free Women's Troops (YJA) Star and came under fire twice from close range. The number of dead or injured soldiers could not be determined with certainty. In the evening, the army took massive artillery fire on the combat area before ending the operation.

On April 27, a member of a covert unit was targeted and shot in a sniper action in the Helena Pîr area of Şirnak. A similar action in Girê Hirmo area on the same day also killed one soldier. The Turkish army responded with indiscriminate artillery attacks against the area.

On April 28, mobile guerrilla units in Şirnak targeted the Turkish troops moving at Girê Şehîd Jêhat. During the action, one soldier was killed and another was injured. According to the HPG, both were retrieved under the cover of attack helicopters before the area was bombarded with howitzers.

Southern Kurdistan

In the southern Kurdish region of Avaşîn, the Turkish army's occupation attacks continue to focus on the resistance area of Werxelê. On April 29, a machine gun nest was targeted and destroyed by the guerrillas. Two of the soldiers inside were killed, and the other two were injured. In addition to a machine gun, a machine grenade launcher was also destroyed in the action.

On April 30, the guerrillas struck the positions of Turkish occupation troops deployed in the vicinity of their defensive positions. As a result of intense shelling, the soldiers there fled the area. Helicopters brought in for evacuation from the air were forced to retreat by guerrillas with heavy weapons. Later in the day, the Turkish army used chemical agents and artillery against the guerrilla positions.

Action by the air defense units

In the Zap region on Saturday, the air defense unit "Şehîd Delal" targeted the Turkish positions at Kuro Jahro, which were "effectively" hit. Mobile guerrilla units also shelled the positions of the occupation forces with heavy weapons. In Şikefta Birîndara, a soldier was shot dead in a sniper action. At Girê Şehîd Şahîn, the guerrillas prevented an advance attempt, and subsequently the area was bombarded with artillery from Turkish border posts. In the evening hours, the guerrillas opened fire on several attack helicopters coming from the KDP-controlled town of Amêdî on an attack flight against Kuro Jahro. The aircraft were forced to withdraw as a result. The HPG pointed out that Kuro Jahro and the Şehîd Berxwedan area were attacked with chemical weapons a total of seven times yesterday.

Guerrilla sabotage in Xakurke

Three soldiers were killed in a guerrilla sabotage in Xakurke on April 27. A Reo-type vehicle was reportedly moving along the route between the Girê Kevortê and Girê Masîro hills when a hidden explosive device detonated as it passed overhead.

Turkish airstrikes

In Xakurke, seven airstrikes were recorded against the Girê Şehîd Şerîf and the surrounding area of the Lolan River in the past two days. In Zap, both attack helicopters and border guard ground forces bombed the Girê Cehennem, Karker, Şikefta Birîndara, Kuro Jahro, Saca and Sîda areas yesterday. In the evening, fighter jets carried out a total of seven waves of attacks against the areas of Girê Bihar, Şehîd Kendal and Girê Amediyê.
