HPG reports Turkish use of chemical agents and phosphorus bombs in guerrilla areas

The Turkish army attacked guerrilla positions in southern Kurdistan with chemical agents, phosphorus bombs and explosives, while seven soldiers were killed in guerrilla actions, and an armed drone and a thermal camera were destroyed.

The guerrillas continue to resist the Turkish invasion in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the daily statement of the press centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG), seven soldiers of the Turkish invading forces were killed and one injured in the latest guerrilla actions. The guerrillas also destroyed a drone and a thermal camera. The HPG stated that the guerrillas are fighting with a high level of sacrifice and are creatively combining different tactics.

Regarding the Turkish attacks, the HPG said that chemical agents, phosphorus bombs and explosives were used seven times against guerrilla positions. The statement also reports five air strikes with fighter jets and twenty with attack helicopters, and dozens of attacks with howitzers and mortars.

Guerrilla actions in Avaşîn, Zap and Metîna

A mobile unit of YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) struck a Turkish military position in Kanî Biyê in the Avaşîn region on 19 July and destroyed a thermal camera. At six o'clock today, an armed drone was shot down over the Şehîd Adil area in the region of Zap.

On Wednesday, a soldier was shot dead by a mobile sniper unit at Girê Cûdî. At Girê Amêdî six soldiers were killed and one injured in two separate actions of sabotage. On Wednesday evening, in the same area, an advance by Turkish ground forces was repulsed and an airdropping operation was foiled by guerrillas who used heavy weapons in both actions.
