HPG: Resistance against Turkish occupation continues unabated

HPG reported a series of guerrilla actions in recent days as the Turkish army continues to use chemical warfare agents in combination with explosives against guerrilla positions amidst massive bombardments.

The Kurdish guerrillas' resistance to the Turkish army's military operation in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), launched ten days ago, continues unabated. The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reported a series of guerrilla actions in recent days, in which several members of the occupation forces were killed. In addition, an enemy position was destroyed and a drone was shot down. The Turkish army continues to use chemical warfare agents against the guerrillas amidst massive bombardments.

"The resistance of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla against the occupation operation of the Turkish colonial state continues without interruption. Our forces apply tactics of modern guerrilla warfare in the war zone in an effective and creative way, thus dealing hard blows to the occupiers. Our guerrillas are transforming every meter of ground in Kurdistan into a center of resistance with Apoist and sacrificial spirit. The fascist Turkish state is not getting anywhere and is massively using chemical weapons against our fighting positions in the resistance areas," HPG said on the current war.

The HPG statement listed the following guerrilla actions:

Avaşîn

On April 26, soldiers were attacked while cutting down trees near the Werxelê resistance area. One soldier was shot dead by HPG snipers, and another soldier was injured. On the same day, guerrillas targeted a Turkish unit that was trying to establish a position in the area.

Zap

On April 25, an advance of invading forces toward Şehîd Amargî was attacked by YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) guerrillas with firearms and hand grenades, killing three soldiers. At the same time, a drone was shot down over the area.

In the resistance area of Şehîd Şahin, a soldier was killed in a guerrilla action on the same day. A Turkish unit that was set to be stationed at Girê Rûbar was struck with heavy weapons. A few hours later, guerrillas successfully intervened against airdropped troops at the mountain peak, and the helicopters were forced to retreat.

Also on April 25, Turkish soldiers were hit with heavy weapons at Girê Mamreş, while the number of dead and injured could not be determined. One soldier was killed in an action with heavy weapons in Werxelê, and the Turkish unit subsequently withdrew.

On April 26, guerrillas targeted the occupation forces in Kevirêkun from two sides, killing two soldiers. A few hours later, another soldier was shot dead by HPG snipers in the area.

On the same day, the guerrillas struck an enemy position on Girê Şehîd Harûn from two sides. The position was destroyed and two soldiers were killed. Three actions with heavy weapons targeted the Turkish forces at Girê Ortê, Girê Şehîd Amargî and Girê Şemdîn. Two soldiers were killed and one soldier sustained injuries in two actions carried out with heavy weapons at Girê Mamreş on Tuesday.

Metîna

On April 26, Turkish occupation forces were targeted twice by guerrillas with heavy weapons in Qempa Mîlîtan near Hiror. The intended targets were hit accurately.

Attacks by the Turkish army

In the Zap region, the Turkish army used explosives and chemical agents against guerrilla positions on several occasions on Tuesday. The areas affected were Girê Şehîd Cûdî and Şehîd Berxwedan. Fighting in the areas continues.

The HPG also reported various artillery and airstrikes between April 25 and 27 in the Avaşîn, Zap, Xakurke and Metîna regions.
