HPG Press Office released a statement providing information on the latest situation in the Turkish army's operations in Kato, Tendürek and Amed regions, Northern Kurdistan.

KATO

According to the HPG statement, no confrontation or clash has taken place so far between guerrillas and Turkish military units that are conducting search efforts in Kato region in Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap district for a while. An action by guerrillas in this region left at least 12 soldiers dead while guerrillas seized arms from the soldiers and turned back to their base safely.

HPG said Turkish forces seized some arms and munitions during the search efforts in this region, but refuted the Turkish reports that large quantities of ammunition was seized, saying that these reports were just an exaggeration of the truth. HPG remarked that most of the munitions that the Turkish army claimed to have seized here are not available in this territory at all, such as 5 tons of ammonium nitrate and 2 AT-4 type anti-tank weapons.

HPG said one single confrontation took place during the operation in this region, which was an action carried out by guerrillas.

“Despite this truth, Turkey's presentation of “heroes of Kato” is just empty rhetoric. There is no combat in Kato in order for there to be heroes of battle”, HPG underlined.

TENDÜREK

HPG said the Turkish army has suffered two consecutive defeats and heavy blows in Tendürek region of Ağrı.

“Despite the fact that we suffered no losses apart from 5 guerrillas who fell as martyrs during the first confrontation, the Turkish army tries to deceive the public opinion by hiding or minimising their losses and exaggerating the guerrillas' losses, and makes its defeat look like a succcess under false pretences.”

HPG emphasised that the Turkish state's reports on these two areas, Kato and Tendürek, were statements of psychological war that distorted the truth.

AMED

“During the operations participated by 15 thousand soldiers in Amed state, guerrilla forces have put up great resistance, carried out successful actions and made the Turkish state suffer heavy losses, and this process continues. Two guerrillas have been martyred in this region so far. Just like in Tendürek, the operation is Amed state has also witnessed a defeat by the Turkish army.”

HPG added that details about the outcomes of the operations will be announced later on.
