HPG: Turkish army launched 9,790 attacks on guerrilla areas in April

HPG released the balance sheet for April, reporting 9,790 attacks from the air and ground, including with chemical weapons, phosphorus bombs, and banned weapons against guerrillas in ceasefire position. Four guerrillas were martyred in the attacks.

The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) released the balance sheet of war for April. Despite the unilateral ceasefire declared by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) on March 1, the Turkish army has continued its attacks on guerrilla areas in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) on a massive scale. According to the balance sheet, HPG recorded 9,693 attacks on guerrilla positions in the past month, in addition to dozens of attacks by warplanes, helicopters and explosive-laden drones. Turkish attacks, in which chemical substances, phosphorus bombs, and other banned weapons were also used, left four guerrillas dead, two of them in a chemical weapons attack.

The HPG balance sheet includes the following:

“The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla, who represent the hope of our people for a free future, have entered a ceasefire position as of March 1, 2025, in response to Rêber Apo's (Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s) call, and have approached this process with great sensitivity to ensure that this historic call is met in practice. Over the two-month period following the declaration by the People's Defense Center Headquarters Command, all our forces have acted in accordance with the ceasefire decision. In this sense, the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla has fulfilled the requirements of this sensitive process with great patience and sacrifice.

The Turkish army took advantage of the ceasefire and resorted to immoral methods

Throughout March and April, the occupying Turkish army took advantage of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla's ceasefire and resorted to immoral methods, insisting on the policy of annihilation. Despite mobilizing all its forces, the occupying Turkish army failed to break the historic guerrilla resistance and suffered defeat in the Western Zap region, the heart of Zap, at the hands of the guerrilla forces. As a result, the occupying forces intensified their attacks on the tunnels and positions in the resistance areas. The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla have responded appropriately within the framework of legitimate self-defense and prevented the occupiers from advancing. Unable to overcome this magnificent resistance, the occupiers once again violated the rules of war, using chemical weapons, banned explosives, and banned phosphorus bombs against our forces.

The invaders failed to achieve their goals

The invaders, who were encountered by Apoist militants in every inch of the sacred Kurdistan soil they set foot on, failed to achieve their goals despite attacking guerrilla areas using techniques capable of destroying cities. Our comrades Besê and Mîtra, who became immortal as a result of a chemical attack by the occupying Turkish army, and our comrades Xebat, Goran and Egîd, who duly responded to the occupiers and fought until the last moment in a wounded state, have become symbols of the Apoist will and invincibility, waving the victory flag of the PKK and PAJK and bringing pride to our people.

Guerrillas thwarted dozens of operations in Northern Kurdistan

As in the Medya Defense Zones, the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla have successfully practiced Democratic Modern Guerrilla Warfare in Bakurê (Northern) Kurdistan, thwarting dozens of operations carried out by the occupying forces with all their war techniques and thousands of occupiers. Our professional guerrilla units, who have successfully put into practice the creative style and tactics of the new era, have not suffered any losses in Bakurê Kurdistan.

Based on Rêber Apo's remark that “the greatest technique is the person himself,” the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla have also challenged the occupiers in the skies of Kurdistan despite limited resources and difficult conditions, dealing a major blow to the occupiers' much-vaunted war tactics and denying them passage in the air as well as on the ground.

Chemical weapons, phosphorus bombs and banned explosives used

In April, the occupying Turkish army once again committed war crimes by using chemical weapons, phosphorus bombs, and banned explosives against our forces seven times, attempted to destroy our resistance tunnels with destructive and piercing shovels, and carried out 76 attacks by warplanes, 12 attacks by helicopters, 2 attacks by explosive-laden drones, and 9,693 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery, and howitzers.

Our forces intervened against invaders 17 times

Acting on the basis of legitimate self-defense, our forces have intervened against invaders involved in attacks 17 times. As a result of these interventions, one of the invaders was killed and five others were injured. Additionally, our forces destroyed a tank, two armored vehicles, two surveillance camera systems, one howitzer, two drones, and one jammer. On the other hand, an armored vehicle, a container, and a position were damaged, and a drone was seized.

Four of our comrades were martyred

Four of our comrades, who defended the sacred lands of Kurdistan against the occupiers with great sacrifice, fought selflessly for the honor of our people, and handed over the banner of struggle to us, to their comrades left behind, fell as martyrs in April. We once again remember our immortal martyrs, who are our past, present, and future, with love, respect, and gratitude."

The balance sheet for the month of April is as follows:
