HPG said they struck Turkish attack helicopters in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) as a retaliation for the Turkish aerial bombardment that killed an HPG commander and two Iraqi commanders.
The Press Office of People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement announcing the details of latest guerrilla actions and Turkish military attacks in Kurdistan territory.
According to the statement, guerrillas struck Turkish helicopters in the Çarçella area of Zagros region at 10 am on 16 August. One of the Sikorsky helicopters was put under intense fire and inflicted heavy damage. According to available information, it crashed shortly after leaving the area.
Guerrillas struck another helicopter after it had taken off from the Çarçel hill. Effective strikes left the helicopter heavily damaged and forced it to retreat from the area.
The statement said that the actions were carried out in memory of HPG commander Agit Garzan and two Iraqi commanders who fell in a targeted attack by the Turkish army in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) last week.
