The 2021 Newroz was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Avashîn, in the Medya Defense Areas. Addressing the guerrillas gathered around the Newroz fire, HPG commander Sîpan Rojhilat said: "We welcome the 2021 Newroz with the spirit and enthusiasm of the Garê victory. The resistance and the victory against the Turkish army in Garê determined the colour and spirit of Newroz 2021. From the mountains of Kurdistan to the prisons and in all areas where the struggle is carried out, our people and the guerrillas are welcoming Newroz and claim they will achieve the freedom of our Leader, Abdullah Öcalan.'

HPG and YJA Star guerrillas also celebrated Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, whose birthday is on 4 April, the resistance in prisons and the people, and paid tribute to the martyrs.

Zagros guerrillas said that the 2021 Newroz was the start of a new process of action for the guerrilla, and that every Newroz was welcomed with a new initiative. "We will succeed in this Newroz with the spirit of victory of the Garê epic."

The guerrillas, who started celebrating in the early hours of the morning, continued the Newroz celebration by performing dances, songs and chanting slogans for freedom until the night.
