A solidarity hunger strike against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan has been taking place for nine days in the Maxmur refugee camp in southern Kurdistan. The hunger strike is carried out by changing groups in support of political prisoners in Turkey and has been initiated by the Ishtar Women's Council.
Today, the fifth group of people from the camp took over the alternating hunger strike. One of the activists is Zekî Geverî who spoke to ANF and said; "I am on hunger strike because I want to live with Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] in a free country. That makes me proud. Friend and foe should know that we will not give up our struggle until our last breath."
Wesîle Gabarî is also taking part in the action. She says that the struggle will continue until the liberation of Abdullah Öcalan: "As a mother, I appeal to all Kurds to rise up and support the resistance of the guerrillas and political prisoners."
Evdilayê Spêrtî refers to Abdullah Öcalan's deportation to Turkey almost 21 years ago with international cooperation and says, "Our leader is in prison due to the cooperation of global forces. Even his capture has not changed our attachment to him. The PKK was founded with the philosophy of Rêber Apo, today millions of people stand behind it. We say that whatever happens, in the end this philosophy will win the victory."
