On December 18, a hunger strike was launched in Maxmur Camp in the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The action, which is led by women, has been carried out in the Maxmur Martyr Families Association for 115 days.
One of the hunger strikers, Gule Ozek told Roj News: “We will do whatever we can to achieve freedom for Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan]. We do not accept any phone calls. What we want is Leader Apo's freedom,”
Ozek also underlined that they will continue their action with determination.
Another citizen named Cemil Korkmaz said: “Everyone should support the 'Dem Dema Azadiyê' initiative and take to the streets. The enemy can no longer deceive us with negotiations. Our actions will continue until the freedom of our leader is achieved.”
A citizen named Wesile Özdemir said: "We will continue our actions for the freedom of Leader Apo to the end. We will not give up on this until we achieve our goal.”
