Hunger strikes in South Kurdistan continue

The hunger strike resistance has spread to many parts of South Kurdistan.

Nasır Yağız in Hewlêr has reached day 125 of his hunger strike demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The health situation of Yağız is a matter of growing concern as he has been showing signs of serious health problems for days and is currently spending almost all day in bed as he has difficulties in getting up.

The hunger strike resistance has spread to many parts of South Kurdistan. In parallel with the hunger strike of Yağız, activists are carrying out a solidarity hunger strike in the HDP Hewlêr office. This fast has also reached day 125 and has been taken over by the 62nd group of activists.

Hunger strike in Maxmur

The 34th group of activists took over the solidarity hunger strike in Maxmur refugee camp that on its 100th day. The solidarity hunger strike has been launched on 16 December 2018.

In Maxmur, Fadile Tok, member of the Ishtar Council Coordination has reached day 65 of her indefinite hunger strike.

Hunger strike in Sulaymaniyah

The solidarity hunger strike launched at the Mesopotamian Workers' Association in Sulaymaniyah has been taken over by the 52nd group of activists on its 102nd day.

Gulebax Celal, member of Tevgera Azadi Germiyan Regional Council, has been on indefinite hunger strike since 17 March.

Fatma Ehmed in the village of Tatan, Pênciwên province, has been on a week solidarity hunger strike, while Herem Mehmud has been on indefinite hunger strike for a month.

Speaking to RojNews on the 30th day of his fast, Mehmud said his health was getting worse. Mehmud stated that his vision weakened, and added that he was exhausted and had pain in his feet. “But nothing can make me regret this action. - he said - My determination and morale are high. My action will continue until the isolation is broken.”
