Initial actions of the trustee at Amed Municipality today

The trustee appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality to replace jailed Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı has taken office Wednesday morning amid an extraordinary presence of police forces.

The trustee, Cumali Atilla from Turkish capital Ankara, came to the municipality building with an army of policemen in the early morning hours. He first had the website of the municipality closed and taken over by it specialists from police directorate that took the website under “maintenance”.

Hundreds of policemen were stationed on every floor of the municipality building and snipers on the top floor.

Policemen doubling the number of employees started to keep watch with long-barreled weapons on every floor and at every corner.

Policemen also broke all the doors in the municipality, after which all the locks were changed and the keys of the new locks were passed to units during the end of the shift.

The trustee later instructed the changing of all the ID cards the municipality gave to the employees with signatures of Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı on them.

Drivers of the municipality buses, who have stopped work for the last one week in protest at the detention and following arrest of the co-mayors, were made to start working today and the transport service was provided free throughout the day.

The trustee removed Amed Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Zülküf Karatekin from office and transferred him to DİSKİ (Diyarbakır Directorate of Water and Sewerage Administration).
