Injured HPG guerrilla tortured to death by the Turkish army

Rûmet Cîlo, an HPG guerrilla from Afrin, was seriously wounded in a battle in Avaşîn and captured by the Turkish army. Because he refused to surrender and collaborate, he was tortured to death.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reported that guerrilla fighter Rûmet Cîlo was seriously wounded in a battle in the southern Kurdish region of Avaşîn when he was captured by the Turkish occupation forces and tortured to death.

The skirmish between the guerrillas and the Turkish army took place on October 26 in the vicinity of the village of Kiyê in the Stûnê region. "Our companion Rûmet responded to the occupiers' offer of surrender and collaboration with the Apoist militant stance. He died of torture by the Turkish occupation army and he did not submit to the inhumane torture despite being severely wounded,” HPG said and shared the following ID information of their fallen fighter.

HPG stated that Rûmet Cîlo was born in Afrin. His family was connected to the Kurdish liberation movement and Rûmet grew up with the revolution of Rojava. He participated in the revolutionary work and quickly developed into a competent commander who played an important role in the fight against ISIS. In 2016, he joined the guerrillas in the mountains and fought against the occupation by the state of Turkey. With his ready and selfless personality, he enjoyed great prestige in his environment, HPG said. He participated in the resistance in Avaşîn since the beginning of the Turkish invasion of Southern Kurdistan in April.
