Several Iraqi provinces that ended under the control of DAESH (ISIS) mercenaries witnessed large waves of displaced people who headed towards Northern and Eastern Syria to flee from repression and war.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration in Northern and Eastern Syria welcomed Iraqi refugees and opened camps for them, ensuring services and aid.
After the liberation of Iraq from DAESH mercenaries refugees wanted to return home but the Iraqi government denied them this right, fearing that together with the refugees DAESH members could be returning to Iraq.
A source from the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights and Refugee Affairs told ANHA that the Iraqi government has been studying the situation of its refugee citizens and after coordinating and communicating with the Democratic Autonomous Administration has decided to open the border and allow its citizens to return.
The source confirmed that it will soon issue an official statement to confirm the decision.
