The Iraqi Election Commission announced that the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections would not be held on the previously decided date.
The Iraqi Election Commission published a statement announcing that the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary Elections will not be held on 25 February 2024 as previously decided.
Independent Election Commission spokesperson Imad Cemil said that the commission cannot hold parliamentary elections because the Federal Court postponed the decision regarding the quota seats.
Cemil said, "The commission cannot make preparations for the elections because the Federal Court postponed its session on quota seats to 21 January."
Cemil said: "The Kurdistan Region Presidency was officially informed, and an agreement was requested to determine another date for the parliamentary elections."
Following a one-year delay to the election, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in August set 25 February 2024 as the new date for the election.
