The Iraqi government demanded on Tuesday to hand over the autonomous security forces in Shengal, Asayîşa Êzîdxanê (Yazidi Public Security), to state control within two days. After a meeting on Wednesday, the Shengal Autonomous Council issued a statement calling once again for dialogue. At the same time, the council stressed that the Yazidis will not give up their autonomous structures and that any attack will be reciprocated. At the meeting, it was decided to organise a protest in Shengal on Thursday.
According to reports, Iraqi military forces attacked residents of the Tilizer village who were on their way to Shengal to join the protest march. The attack at the military checkpoint in the village left a villager injured.
Reports say that Iraqi soldiers have opened fire into the air to disperse the crowd and tensions continue in the village.
