Iraqi government forces are preventing the representatives of the Yazidi community from Russia from entering Shengal to celebrate the Çarşema Sor Feast.
According to the Yazidi belief, today is the festival of Çarşema Serê Nîsanê (the first Wednesday of April), which means the day of the creation of the universe. It is the most meaningful day of the year for Yazidis who welcome it with joy and expectation. Shengal is known as the center of the celebration. Every year, Yazidis and their friends from many countries go to Shengal for the celebration.
However, the Iraqi government is preventing the representatives of the Yazidi people from entering Shengal. Yazidi representatives who came to Iraq from Russia to attend the Çarşema Serê Nîsanê celebrations have been prevented from entering Shengal for 3 days.
According to the information obtained, they were stopped in Kesk district, west of Mosul, and prevented from going to Shengal.
Although the incoming guests passed through dozens of checkpoints without any problems, they were stopped by the National Security Unit at the Kesk checkpoint.
On 18 April 18 last year, while the Yazidi people were preparing to celebrate Çarşema Serê Nîsanê, Iraqi security forces attacked the Êzidxan Public Order Forces and did not respect this important day for the Yazidi people.
