ISIS attack in Kirkuk leaves two peshmergas dead

ISIS gangs attacked the positions of peshmergas and guerrillas in Kirkuk. In the following clashes, 5 ISIS members were killed, while two peshmergas lost their lives and six others were wounded.

ISIS gangs attacked the Peshmerga headquarters in Kaywan region of Kirkuk at around 03:00 last night. Following the attack, HPG and YJA-Star guerrillas dispatched reinforcements to the area and responded to the attack. Clashes here lasted till 05:00 in the morning.

During the clashes, two ISIS members detonated themselves and three others were killed. On the other hand, two peshmergas lost their lives and six others were wounded.

It came out that ISIS gangs were dressed in peshmerga uniforms as they launched the aggression.

 

Speaking to reporters in the clashes area after the attack, Peshmerga commander Liwa Hîwa Abdullah said the attack was carried out by "sleeping ISIS cells" that were dressed in peshmerga uniforms.

"All the 5 ISIS members engaged in the attack were killed. Two peshmergas fell as martyrs and six others got wounded", he said.

Recalling that the Hawîce district of Kirkuk is still under ISIS occupation, Abdullah stressed that threats on Kirkuk will remain as long as Hawîce is held by ISIS.

HPG sources reported that they did not suffer any casualties or injuries as result of the attack and clashes.
