Jêhat Bager, a valiant fighter for the Kurdish nation and his country

Jêhat Bager was a Kurdish youngster who knew his history, culture, language and loved life. He became a fighter for the Kurdish nation, for his country. With his last action, he showed what a valiant fighter he was.

With a deep consciousness and mastery of war, Jêhat assumed responsibility and participated in an action in Girê Hekarî Resistance Area on 13 January 2024. He fought until the last bullet and fell as a martyr.

Jêhat Bager took to the mountains of Kurdistan in the summer of 2019, following the trail of resistance, refusing surrender, silence and defeat. We were working on top of a hill, and the road was visible from the hill we were on. We started to look at the road and saw Jêhat coming towards the hill we were on with a few friends. He was moving towards the hill with laughter, as if he had been swept off his feet.

Jêhat's young body, his excitement, his laughter, his advance towards us, despite the hot and scorching weather, made us pull ourselves together. It was clear from the way he walked, the way his face was smiling, the way he came and hugged us, the way he ran to fetch water for us and the comrades who came with him, that Jêhat had fulfilled his childhood dream of joining the guerrillas, which he had been dreaming, wanting and striving for years.

Although Jêhat was new in the mountains, he got used to it early. He took his place in practical work on the first day. He immediately adapted to life in the mountains. He achieved this with his labouring, sacrificing and hardworking qualities. He successfully completed everything he did in a solid, clean, orderly and disciplined manner. He did anything his comrades asked him to do.

His participation in training activities was decisive and clear. Since he knew where he was and why, he fulfilled the requirements. He asked what he did not understand and shared what he understood. He did not hide what he thought and how he thought.

He was simple and sincere in his life. He approached every task seriously. Whatever the work was, he tried to do it with excitement. He could always look at things differently and bring a different dimension. After completing his training, he went to his first mission with great enthusiasm. For years, he tried to organise young people. He recruited young people into the guerrilla ranks.

With the intense attacks of the occupying Turkish state on Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna, the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas put up magnificent resistance. Jêhat proposed himself to the battlefield. He deepened his military training to a certain level. He proved that he could resist in the toughest place with his struggle, determination, excitement and stance. He became an expert saboteur. He learned about tunnel warfare and mobile troops. On the basis of this, he moved to Metîna, where the war was very intense.

He was involved in many practical works and activities in Metîna. He dominated every hill, every enemy position, every valley, mountain and stone in the area. He also contributed to the accomplishment of many guerrilla actions in the area.

Jêhat assumed responsibility for the action in Girê Hekarî Resistance Area on 13 January 2024. He participated in it with a deep consciousness and combat mastery. He was aware of the burden and duty imposed on him by that period and history in the Apoist self-sacrificing spirit. Thus, he fought until the last bullet and fell a martyr.

Jêhat was a beautiful, valuable, conscious Kurdish youngster who knew his history, culture and language, who read and tried to understand Rêber Apo [Leader Abdullah Öcalan], and who loved life. He became a fighter for the Kurdish nation, for his country. With his last action, he showed what a valiant fighter he was.
