Kurdish people buried hundreds of thousands sons and daughters who fell to the soil during the struggle against oppressive regimes in all four parts of Kurdistan. One of those who made the ultimate sacrifice was Fuad Mistefa Sultani from Eastern Kurdistan.
Incarcerated in the prisons of Iran's shah regime, Kak Fuad (brother Fuat) managed to unite the people of East Kurdistan around the resistance. Kak Fuad was one of the socialist leaders of East Kurdistan and Iran. Following the overthrow of the shah regime, he struggled against the "jihad" of the ensuing Mullah regime and lost his life 38 years ago between Banê and Merîwan.
Kak Fuad was born in 1948 and after completing the primary and secondary school in Sinê, he moved to Tehran to study at the university. There Kak Fuad began to participate in political activities and together with a group of revolutionaries a founded the Revolutionary Organisation of the Toilers of Kurdistan movement, popularly known as Komala. Soon after Kak Fuad was sent to prison for his political activities, where he went on a 24-day hunger strike initiating with his resistance reactions against the shah regime.
In 1979, Kak Fuad headed to the city Merîwan, where he began to organize agricultural communes. Because of the clashes between the Komala and the Iranian regime, he left Merîwan city. This way he prevented Iranian army’s planned massacres against civilians.
He continued his political activities in Banê, Seqiz, Bokan and Mahabad. He especially organized youth for resistance against shah regime. In 1979, following the overthrow of the shah regime, he started a dialogue with Iran's government.
Kak Fuad played an important role in the establishment of city councils and municipalities, particularly in Merivan city.
After Khomeini's "jihad" fatwa against the Kurdish people on the 19th August 1979, violent clashes broke out throughout the whole of East Kurdistan. One of the pioneers of the resistance was Kak Fuad. In cities like Sinê, Merîwan, Banê and Hewreman he was the spearhead of the Komala.
