KCK expresses condolences for Dr. Tarık Ziya Ekinci and Ali Şükran Aktaş

The KCK has published a statement of condolence for the Kurdish doctor, politician and author Dr. Tarık Ziya Ekinci and the peace activist Ali Şükran Aktaş.

The peace activist Ali Şükran Aktaş and the Kurdish doctor, politician and author Tarık Ziya Ekinci died shortly after each other. Aktaş was a member of a peace group and died of cancer. Ekinci died at the age of 99.

The co-chairs of the Executive Council of the KCK said: "It is with great sadness that we learned that Dr. Tarık Ziya Ekinci and Ali Şükran Aktaş, two valuable patriots and fighters for the Kurdish people, lost their lives one after the other. We express our condolences to the entire Kurdish people and especially to their families and loved ones.

The loss of two valuable people who made a great contribution to the struggle for freedom and democracy has deeply affected us and our people. Dr. Tarık Ziya Ekinci witnessed the suffering of the Kurdish people as well as the resistance against denial, assimilation and genocide and participated in this struggle himself. In this respect, he was the memory of the struggle of the Kurdish people. As an intellectual and fighter, he worked with great dedication to create awareness among the Kurdish people and active love for their own country. He also made an important contribution to the development of democratic politics and the struggle for democracy in Turkey."

The statement added: "Ali Şükran Aktaş also led his life in this struggle. He followed the call of Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] and went to Turkey. There he campaigned for the democratization of Turkey and a democratic solution to the Kurdish question. Through his work, he made important contributions to the rapprochement of peoples and the development of solidarity and coexistence. His work has borne important fruits.

We remember both intellectuals, patriots and fighters with great respect. They made valuable contributions to our struggle for freedom and democracy. We express our intention to continue to develop this struggle, and we once again express our condolences to our people."
