KCK: Help earthquake victims without waiting for the State

KCK called on the Kurdish people in all parts of Kurdistan and abroad to give the necessary support to those suffering from the earthquake.

KCK Executive Council co-presidency issued a written statement regarding the earthquake in Rojhilat.

The KCK statement said: "An earthquake based in Xoy hit not only Eastern Kurdistan but also Van and its districts in Northern Kurdistan. The earthquake also affected the areas of Özalp, Saray and Başkale districts of Van. It is reported that there are hundreds of people injured in Eastern Kurdistan. It is not clear how many people died. At least 10 people lost their lives in Başkale and dozens more were injured. We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the earthquake in Northern and Eastern Kurdistan, and we wish a speedy recovering to the wounded."

The statement added: "Since the states don't observe sufficient precautions and are not prepared, there was no immediate intervention to earthquake areas at it happened in areas affected by flood disasters. In this respect, the people in that area should organize themselves to face and act when natural disasters happen and they should help the victims.

Our people should act immediately, knowing that immediate intervention is the most effective aid. This culture of solidarity exists in the Kurdish people. Our people take immediate action when a disaster occurs and fulfill their moral and conscientious social responsibility. As a matter of fact, neighbors and nearby villages were the first to intervene after the earthquake in Van."

The statement continued: "Our people should offer their help to places that have difficulties with their organized institutions in both Eastern Kurdistan and Northern Kurdistan. Indeed, our people expect support from their neighbors and their own people, not from the state. It turns out that the damage is greater in Eastern Kurdistan. In this respect, our people in Eastern Kurdistan should also give an example of solidarity. Furthermore, our people in all parts of Kurdistan and abroad should also give the necessary support to those suffering from the earthquake."

The statement ended with this remarks: "The individualism and materialism of capitalist modernity must be countered by the strong social relations created by the Kurdish society throughout history. Thus, all kinds of disasters should be met with the great spirit of resistance which belongs to our people."
