Kongreya Neteweyî a Kürdistanê-Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) has held the 15th General Meeting in the Belgium capital Brussels with the participation of 44 parties, organizations, observing parties and 176 delegates.
The three-day congress witnessed messages of unity and a fastening that lack of organization and arrangement constituted the biggest obstacle for the Kurdish question.
The main reason for the ISIS attack on Shengal, Rojava and South Kurdistan in early 2014 was attributed to the lack of unity among Kurds, while on the other hand the spirit of unity against ISIS in four parts of Kurdistan was commented as a positive development that needed to serve national unity.
Discussions also put emphasis on the need that KNK place more importance on Kurdish national unity and perform active works in four parts of Kurdistan, for which purpose it was decided to carry the KNK to the Kurdistan territory.
Following the debates, elections were held of the new KNK co-chairs, Executive Council and Council Board.
'KURDISH UNITY IS OUR RED LINE'
Speaking about the assessments and criticism, the re-elected co-chair of the Congress, Nilüfer Koç, said KNK made efforts for the achievement of Kurdish national unity which she described as their basic awareness.
Koç criticized the system in South Kurdistan and pointed to the essentiality of a serious systemic change rather than attributing this problem to one party alone. She said radical democracy was needed to be realized both in the system and all the areas of life to eliminate the existing problem. She said the situation with regards to women was especially critical and needed to be settled.
Commenting on the attacks against the Êzîdî town of Shengal, Koç said; "Shengal is the center of the Kurds. We need to denounce the Shengal massacre in the international arena, just like what we did on Dersim, Halabja and other genocides of the past in the Kurdistan territory. Shengal is the red line of the Kurdish patriotism. We must be insistent to make sure that those responsible give an account of it."
'LET'S RAISE OUR VOICE AGAINST TURKEY'
Saluting the democratic autonomy declared in North Kurdistan, Koç said Kurds should raise their voice against the Turkish state that massacres civilians, bombs Qandil, shells Kurdish villages and attacks Rojava with the support of ISIS.
'WE WILL ENHANCE WORKS FOR ÖCALAN'S FREEDOM'
Laying emphasis on the importance of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and the support he gave both to KNK and Kurdish unity, Koç said KNK will extend the works it has performed for this purpose for 16 years. She noted that members of both the PKK and other parties should see this promoting role of the Kurdish leader.
Remarking that th Kurdistan territory housed not only Kurds but also 12 different folks, Koç said these folks must also have all the rights Kurds have, adding that KNK views all these communities as equal.
KNK co-chair remarked that they wanted to hold the 16th General Meeting in Kurdistan as all four parts were suitable for this objective to be realized, adding; "A system has already been built in South and West Kurdistan. There is currently an ongoing process of uprising in North Kurdistan, and the situation is the same in the East as well. For this reason, this 15th General Meeting is at the same time a meeting of returning to Kurdistan."
