In Rojhilatê Kurdistan and Iran, the Democratic Confederal system is the only way that can transcend the nation-state system and offer an alternative life to all societies.
The third congress of KODAR (Democratic and Free Society of East Kurdistan) was held in the mountains of Kurdistan on 7, 8 and 9 May with the slogan "Let's Organize the Society with the Revolutionary Spirit of the Peoples, Let's Free Kurdistan".
The congress started with the election of the council and the opening speech was made by Fuad Beritan, co-chair of KODAR.
Fuad Beritan said: "We salute Rêber Apo [Abdullah Ocalan], the architect of free life who resists in Imrali, all our comrades fighting in the mountains of Kurdistan, our patriotic people who do not lose their support, and all the revolutionary and democratic people who resist in prisons."
Beritan continued: “Today we are holding a historic meeting here. Everyone, friend and foe, is given a very strong answer. We carry out our congress in a period when our country is exploited in every aspect, oppression is increased, freedoms are abolished, human peoples are languishing and women are massacred every day. Poverty and corruption are getting deeper. Violence and massacres against women are on the rise, young people are arrested, thrown into prisons, executed in the middle of the street. Kurdish people are ignored even in the 21st century. Social problems are turning into chaos and the economy of the country is on the brink of bankruptcy. We say once again that we will show everyone that these policies, which are considered suitable for the public, are not our destiny. On this basis, we renew our promise for freedom, democracy and equality to our people and say: As a result of our strong planning that will come to light with the important decisions that our congress will make, we will give the necessary answer to everyone, friendly and enemies.”
On the second day of the congress, the results of the three-year activities were evaluated.
"The given system in Iran, which is a mosaic of peoples, keeps all segments of society under pressure on the issues of political, social, cultural, ecological, economic and gender freedoms. The beliefs of every society form the basis of the spiritual world of that society. The Iranian regime has always used the religion and beliefs, language and culture of the society as an instrument for the legitimacy of political power. Social democratic communal values recreated by the struggle we wage will be the construction of a free society. The development of a democratic society is possible above all by establishing autonomous-government systems.
In order for societies to become self-governed, it is imperative to develop and grow the struggle based on common force, based on dialogue with egalitarian democratic parties and civil institutions and organizations.
In Rojhilatê Kurdistan and Iran, the Democratic Confederal system is the only way that can transcend the nation-state system and offer an alternative life to all societies. For this, we must work towards the autonomous administration more strongly in all our social work areas. The democratic autonomy that will develop in Iran will not only bring the Kurdish people, but also Baluchi, Arab, Turkmen, Azeri peoples.”
To remember ecologist Sherif Bacwer and his three friends, who were killed by state forces while trying to put out the forest fire in Meriwan in 2018, 24 August has been declarared Ecology Day in Rojhilatê Kurdistan and Iran.
