'Kurdish Unity: Ways to Strengthen and Perspectives for the Future' workshop kicks off in Qamishlo

The workshop titled “Kurdish Unity: Ways to Strengthen and Perspectives for the Future” has begun in Qamishlo.

Organized by the Euphrates Research Center, the workshop 'Kurdish Unity: Ways to Strengthen and Perspectives for the Future' brings together Kurdish intellectuals, writers, researchers, literary figures, journalists, artists, representatives of all political parties in Rojava, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, Jazira Canton, the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), and the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD).

In the opening speech, Îlham Ehmed, co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration, referred to the Conference on Unity and Common Stance of Rojava Kurdistan held on 26 May 2025, in Qamishlo.

Ehmed said: "All the decisions taken at the conference show that national awareness and understanding among the Kurdish people have reached the highest level in this historical period. A sense of responsibility now drives all Kurdish parties from their respective positions, emphasizing that the alliance mistakes that led to Kurdish division must not be repeated."

Stressing that the conference marks a historical turning point for implementing Kurdish alliances in practice, Ehmed added: "The truth is, intellectual differences affect our interactions. We must view these differences as a richness, but we must not allow them to lead to the fragmentation of the Kurdish people."

Regarding the role of Kurds in shaping a new Syria, Ehmed said: "All societies have ideological differences, but these should never justify division or unilateral action. This is crucial for the development of the Kurdish people and the building of a new Syria. Lessons from history are invaluable. Society must not be divided. Today in Turkey, a dialogue process has already begun between Kurds and Turks. If we can move forward together in this process, I believe we can take many more significant and correct steps in the future."

The workshop continues under three main themes: 'The Importance of Strengthening Kurdish Unity,' 'The National Dimension of the Kurdish Unity Conference Documents,' and 'The Role of Kurds in Syria and Constitutional Options.' The event hosts comprehensive discussions on the future of Kurdish unity.
