Ferit Şenyaşar, a member of parliament from the DEM Party, said that the peace for which Sırrı Süreyya Önder fought so hard must be supported by all segments of society.
Ferit Şenyaşar, DEM Party MP from Urfa (Riha), told ANF that there is no sense of hopelessness about peace in Turkey and emphasized the Kurdish people's determination for peace, stressing that the state must take concrete steps as soon as possible.
Şenyaşar said: "It’s hard to put Sırrı Süreyya Önder into words. Whenever we were in a difficult situation, whenever a need arose or the people had a demand, he would always find a solution."
Highlighting that the most important legacy Sırrı Süreyya Önder left behind is the struggle for peace, Şenyaşar added: "Before the 27 February call, we made a peace initiative in Urfa. We tried to make that peace a step toward societal peace. President Sırrı left us the struggle for peace as a legacy. He prioritized the peace process over his own health. Even when he needed medical treatment, he never stopped fighting for peace. The only thing President Sırrı wanted was peace for this land. He passed away without seeing that peace, but it is our duty to carry the process he left us to its conclusion. The people expect this. We will work harder for peace. We have no alternative to peace. We promise to complete the struggle for peace."
The state must take concrete steps
Şenyaşar added: "The true party to the peace process is the people," and continued: "There is no hopelessness about peace in Turkey. If the people organize and turn their demand for peace into action with a louder voice, those who govern the state will have to take steps toward peace. The people must firmly support this peace process. As the Kurdish people, we have declared our determination for peace and our readiness to take any step. We now expect the state to take concrete steps without delay."
