MESSAGE FROM MAM ZEKI’S FAMILY

Zeki Şengali’s brother Süleyman Özden gave a short speech before leaving Shengal and said: “My request from the Yazidi people is that they don’t forget Mam Zeki’s words and continue with their work. This condolence tent should be the tent of our alliance. If we don’t form our alliance, we will continue to be targeted by enemy attacks. I thank you all once again and commend your efforts.”

Zeki Şengali’s wife Gulê Özden spoke afterwards and said: “You are all our mothers and fathers. I celebrate Zeki’s martyrdom for all of you. Falling martyr has great significance in Êzidxan. We may be a small family, but we as the Yazidi society are a great big family. Zeki wasn’t just ours, he was the Mam Zeki of Êzidxan and all Yazidis.”

Zeki Şengali’s son Edib Özden said the Yazidi society gives them strength and added: “Yes my father was martyred. But I can’t say my wings are broken, I know that the Yazidi society is behind me. With my father’s martyrdom, our heads are held up high. Because my father fought for a people who were subjected to massacres for centuries. If we don’t defend ourselves, nobody else will. As the Yazidi people, we must rise up and raise our will up higher.”
