Guerrillas Benda Amed, Destîna Botan and Baran Xemlîn fell as martyrs in an attack by the Turkish army in the Herekol region in July.
The members of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) and Free Women's Units (YJA Star) had fought heavy battles with operational units in Pervari (Xisxêr), east of the Kurdish province of Siirt (Sêrt). Due to the Turkish bombings of the guerrilla area that followed, the families of the martyrs were unable to identify them by sight.
At the beginning of last week, relatives provided blood samples for DNA comparison following a request from the authorities. The identities of the martyrs were confirmed unexpectedly early. The families were asked to collect the bodies kept in the state hospital in Siirt and bury them. They were accompanied by members of the local branches of the DEM and DBP parties and the Solidarity Association of the Families of the Fallen (MEBYA-DER).
Benda Amed, whose real name was Semra Ayverdi, has already been buried in her hometown of Bismil in the province of Amed.
Destîna Botan (Bişeng Durmuş), who came from Şırnak (Şirnex), was buried in the village of Nêwavî in the district of Silopi, and Baran Xemlîn (Seyithan Sencer) was buried in Van on Monday evening.
