Foreign Commission of the Democratic Kurdish Society Center (DKTM) in the German city of Saarbrücken held a panel discussion titled “Democracy or religious madness?” intended for the German public opinion.

Holding the opening speech, DKTM Co-Chair Dilan Akdoğan called attention to the determining role of the Kurds in the current process, and pointed to the need for international solidarity with the Kurdish people to be enhanced.

Medico International Supervisor for Middle East, Martin Glasenapp, who also attended the panel discussion as a speaker assessed the recent situation in Kurdistan territory, in which he particularly pointed to the importance of the Rojava Revolution.

Stressing that democratic autonomy was the only alternative perspective visible that sided with equality and involved numerous religious and ethnic communities, Glasenapp described the Rojava Revolution as a turning point for the Kurds.

Also touching upon the war started by AKP in North Kurdistan in the wake of the defeat it suffered on 7 June, Glasenapp said Kobanê resistance did also have an influence in the initiation of the war by AKP in Turkey. He underlined that Rojava constituted a sense of 'threatening model' for Turkey.

'EUROPE MIGHT PUSH KURDS ASIDE'

Also speaking about the refugee crisis, Glasenapp said Turkey used this crisis as a political move against Europe. Glasenapp estimated that "Europe might push Kurds aside in many respects and align oneself with Turkey to make sure that it doesn't send some more refugees".

He added that on the other hand, countless people in the region took shelter in Rojava because of the democratic perspective it offered.
