Hundreds of Shengal people, tribal leaders and representatives of the self-government institutions attended the funeral.
‘We will not forget his work for the Yazidi people’
A video message from Mêrdîn's family was played at the ceremony. In their message, the family expressed their condolences to the Yazidi and Kurdish people and said: "The people of Shengal have been protesting since the day Menal was killed. We would like to thank all the people of Shengal. Because the people of Shengal continue their struggle for the disclosure of this incident.”
Speaking on behalf of the families of the martyrs, Hemed Bişar said: “We commemorate the martyrs of Paris and all the martyrs in the person of Menal Mêrdîn. Martyr Menal fought for the people of Kurdistan for years. Finally, after the 3 August ISIS massacre, he went to Shengal.”
Hisên Sadon, Deputy co-chair of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Administration, said: “As Yazidi community, we need to shoulder this burden. It is impossible to describe what Martyr Menal conveyed to this society with his knowledge. We will put into practice what he taught us. We will build the free and autonomous Shengal thanks to the efforts of the martyrs. No one can deter us from this path.”
