MXDŞ: The decision to shut down PADÊ is a disrespect to the will of the Yazidis

In a statement on the Iraqi judiciary's decision to close the Yazidi party PADÊ, MXDŞ stated that Iraq's decision to shut down PADÊ on the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide is a disrespect to the will of the Yazidis.

The Supreme Judicial Council in Baghdad has ordered the closure of the Yazidi Freedom and Democracy Party (PADÊ), as well as the Freedom Movement (Tevgera Azadi) and Democratic National Front parties on arbitrary and unfounded grounds.

In a written statement on Tuesday, the Democratic Autonomous Assembly of Shengal (MXDŞ) condemned the decision of the Iraqi judiciary and described it as a disrespect to the will of the Yazidi community.

MXDŞ stated that 26 agreements were signed during the visit of the Turkish fascist chief Tayyip Erdoğan to Iraq, and one of these decisions was the crushing of the political will of the Yazidis. The statement described the decision of the Judicial Council as a decision of the Turkish state.

MXDŞ described the decision taken on the anniversary of the Yazidi mass slaughter as a continuation of the genocide and continued: "PADÊ has acted according to Iraqi laws since the day it was founded. It has organised dozens of congresses and conferences and participated in elections legally. Despite a successful result in the Mosul Provincial Council elections, the coup d'état of the Turkish state and the KDP prevented it from entering the provincial council."

Defining the decision as a result of the negotiations between Iraq and the Turkish state, MXDŞ pointed out that: "As the Autonomous Administration of Shengal and its institutions, we consider the decision to shut down PADÊ as a result of the negotiations between the two countries. This decision is not independent of the Turkish state, and it is one of the 26 agreements made between both countries."

MXDŞ called on the Iraqi government to stop its cooperation with the Turkish state and warned that: "Iraq's co-operation with the Turkish state will bring great disasters to Iraq and divide the Iraqi people. Iraq must immediately end its cooperation with the Turkish state and stand by its own people."

Remarking that the decision taken on the anniversary of the genocide was unacceptable, MXDŞ made the following call to Iraq: "Stop co-operating with the Turkish state. Your cooperation with the Turkish state will cause great disasters in the future. Stop your cooperation with the Turkish state and stand on the side of the Iraqi peoples. Instead of recognising the "genocide" on its 12th anniversary, the party representing the will of the Yazidi people is meant to be shut down. This is a disrespect to the will of the Yazidi community."

The Democratic Autonomous Assembly of Shengal also appealed to the Yazidi community, saying "We once again call on our people to protect their political parties and institutions with all their strength and not to accept this disrespect by Iraq that does not recognise the will of the Yazidis".

Calling on the people to resist against the decision, MXDŞ urged the Iraqi government to overturn the decision taken by the Iraqi Judicial Council as soon as possible and not to act upon the request of the Turkish state once again.
