Iraq's Independent Supreme Electoral Commission announced that parliamentary elections will be held in the Kurdistan Region in May.
Iraq's Independent Supreme Electoral Commission announced in a statement on Wednesday that parliamentary elections will be held in the Kurdistan Region on May 30, 2024.
Earlier, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani had issued a decree to hold parliamentary elections on February 25, 2024. However, a complaint against the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary Election Law has halted the commission's preparations for the elections.
Imad Cemil, the press officer of the Independent Supreme Electoral Commission, then announced that the commission could not hold the parliamentary elections due to the Federal Court's decision to postpone the seats of the formations and that an agreement was requested to set another date for the parliamentary elections.
